Salt Spring Island is probably Canada's most famous artistic community and was recently rated as one of the top ten artistic communities in Canada. Over the last few years, the island has been like a magnet, drawing and developing an artistic community far larger and stronger than its size might indicate.
Art Galleries
From unique and charming cottage crafts to work by artists who are also displayed in top galleries of the most cosmopolitan cities. You'll find work by artists in contemporary and traditional styles of painting, jewelry, basketry, fabric arts, weaving, paper-making, woodworking, sculpture, pottery, glass work and ceramics. You'll also find fine Asian and European collectibles and antiques and excellent examples of the art of local First Nations peoples.
Artspring
Artspring is a very special Salt Spring performing arts venue. The building is an 11,800 square foot, two-level heavy timber structure boasting a 5,200 square foot exhibition area and a 6,600 square foot, 265 seat theatre. Salt Spring's community theater groups have made the most of the new theatre, offering islanders and visitors high-calibre, professional entertainment. Artspring itself has produced some highly successful musical events, bringing internationally-renowned artists to the island stage.
